Pepper – The Sorcerer’s Apprentice 4.0

A Humanoid Robot Learns Magic

Pepper is a humanoid robot developed by the French company Aldebaran Robotics and the Japanese group SoftBank Mobile. It is programmed to analyse people, their gestures and facial expressions, and to respond accordingly. Designed as a “personal robot”, it is meant to make it easier for people to interact with robots.

Roboter Pepper lernt von Simon das Zaubern

Pepper loves magic – and above all the way people react to seemingly impossible wonders. So he wants to learn the art himself and asks Simon, the iPad magician, to be his teacher. Together they make the impossible possible: Pepper makes predictions, reads minds, learns to solve a Rubik’s Cube and even makes objects levitate.

From iPad Magician to Digital Magician

More than 100 million people have now watched my magic on YouTube, and hardly a press article fails to add “iPad magician” to my name. Of course, Apple’s tablet has earned me a worldwide reputation and even brought me appearances in Hollywood on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. But “digital magician” may be the more fitting description: 3D printers, augmented and virtual reality, drones, holograms, smartphones and smartwatches – and now robotics – are all part of my work, and I’m curious myself to see which future technologies will find their way into my show.

Until then, I look forward to meeting you in person on one of the world’s stages – perhaps on my own, or perhaps with my magical assistant, the robot Pepper.
